What is the best word that summarizes your church?

Family

You will hear this word every week because we believe in an active gathering of God’s people who are passionate about the person of Jesus. We are adopted in, growing up, and reaching out.

How does your leadership function?

The elders of the church are comprised of pastoral staff and qualified men from the community of the church (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Ti. 1:5-16; 1 Pet. 5:1-5). They lead our church through the decision-making and direction-setting for the church (1 Pet. 5:2). They are the primary teachers of the church (1 Tim. 3:2), and their task is spiritual in nature (Acts 6:4). Elders are nominated by the church family, examined by the elder team, and affirmed by congregational vote. Major decisions such as staffing, budget, etc. are brought by the elders to the church family for a vote of affirmation (Acts 6:3, 5).

The deacons are the servants of the church (1 Tim. 3:8-13). They are nominated by the church family, examined by the elders, and affirmed by the entire congregation. Deacons facilitate care for the facility and ministries of the church. They also are tasked with participating in care for the members of the church family through prayer, financial assistance, and practical ministry (Acts 6:1-7).

The congregation are the ministers of our church and to our world. The ministries of the church are facilitated and accomplished by the work of God’s people in their giftedness out of love for one another and the world (Eph. 4:11-16; 1 Cor. 12; Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Pet. 4:7-11).

We have church membership, but you don’t have to be a member to attend.

History of CBC

In 1918, three Central Point Churches, a Baptist, a Methodist, and a Presbyterian joined forces into one fellowship of believers. They expressed this new church as the First Federated Church, finding doctrinal agreement around the importance of salvation by grace through faith in Christ.

After a move in 1946, the churched was renamed Community Bible Church. It was important to always let the simple, straightforward theology of the Bible direct and lead us as a church and not become attached to a denominational idea.

We started meeting in our current location in 1963 because of a fire. This building was a handmade, family project of the entire church and those of us worshipping here have enjoyed their labor of love.
