Kevin preached on James 3 and the tongue this Sunday, talking about how much our speech reveals what’s in our hearts. I’ve been reading in Proverbs lately and yesterday morning I read chapter 10 which spoke a lot about the “words of the godly.” Perfect timing from the Holy Spirit, as always.
I wanted to share 3 verses in particular for us to dwell on and ask ourselves the question, “Is that true of me?”
“The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.” Proverbs 10:11
“The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.” Proverbs 10:21
“The lips of the godly speak helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words.” Proverbs 10:32
The words of the godly…
- Are a life-giving fountain
- Encourage many
- Are helpful
May that be true of us. I encourage you to read all of Proverbs 10, read James 3 again, and ask our Father to help your words be like this.
