I was incredibly blessed by Pastor Eddie’s sermon this past week, and I know our church was as well.
Two Notes:
- If anyone was in first service and saw me leave toward the end, I wasn’t staging a walk-out. I was scheduled to share about the South Asia trip in the Pathways Equip class. (I did come back around at the end of 2nd service and listen to the end).
- Eddie came to my office this week and asked for evaluation (pro move!). I wasn’t totally prepared to give it because I was too busy being edified sitting under the faithfully taught Word and wasn’t thinking about critique (highly recommended!). It is rare that I get the opportunity to sit under preaching at CBC these days. (If you are wondering, I rallied and gave a couple of thoughts).
I have heard from a lot of people that they are grateful to see others get the chance to preach on Sunday mornings. I wanted to take a moment and share why sharing the pulpit is vital.
First, different people have different voices. Different voices connect with people in different ways. That is a good thing as long as each of us submit ourselves to the Word and its supremacy.
Second, handling the Word is a core responsibility and qualification for elders. I want our church to understand how God has blessed CBC with godly and capable elders to lead His church.
Last, we need to give space for young(er) men to handle God’s Word in that context. One of our values is to raise up the next generation of pastors/elders. To do that, we must allow opportunities for them to preach to the whole congregation. They need a chance to work out those muscles.
Expect more of the same in the future. I hope you are excited to be a part!
