The primary implications of living in harmony as believers is that how we think, speak, and act changes. This doesn’t happen by our own strength, though. Jesus is the foundation of our unity, the Holy Spirit is the power in our unity, and the Father is the source of our unity.
We know from history and personal experience that the primary cause of disunity is sin. The Bible is clear that sin breaks fellowship, causing disunity; however, godly repentance restores it.
As we approach this Sunday, where Kevin will talk about confessing our sins to one another, we can make the connection between sin and unity.
Sin → Disunity
Confession → Unity
Here are three ways we can prioritize our unity as family:
- Preserve unity by covering sin with love (1 Peter 4:8)
- Protect unity by pursuing sinners in love (Romans 5:8)
- Promote unity by serving one another (Galatians 5:13)
Sunday, we will continue exploring the “one anothers” of the New Testament in the book of James.
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16
